If you miss the forest and want to get at least one foot in the mountains while in Shangri-la, this half day hike might be just right. Starting and end from the original settlement of Hongpo “Red Hill” Village, this walk follows paths up through the forest and up a few steep portions and to a saddle 300m above the village. From the path, there are some nice views of a seasonal lake and the village below. On a really clear day, you get a distant view of Kawagebo (Meili Mountain). The loop completes coming down on a slightly less steep path than going up.
If you’re staying with us at Red Hill B&B, the hike starts and ends from the door. If you are in town, we will provide transportation to and from Red Hill.
