4-Day Yubeng Trek

Secret villages only recently revealed, majestic mountain peaks, steep glaciers feeding mountain streams and waterfalls. These are the reasons to trek through Yubeng.

Day 1: Drive from Shangri-la to Ninong village (5 hours) and begin the hike into Lower Yubeng village. We’ll hike for 10km starting at 2000m, going up to Lower Yubeng village at 3000m. Then, we’ll set up in a trekker’s lodge and enjoy the views of the valley and some of the glaciated peaks of Kawakarpo.

Meals included: Lunch

Day 2: This day’s trek, we will trek from our base in Lower Yubeng Village to the sacred waterfall. From Lower Yubeng, we follow the river that is fed from glaciers up above and flows through the sacred waterfall. We will reach the waterfall slightly after lunch at 3600m.

The sacred waterfall is a pilgrimage destination for Tibetans from all over. If you think you can brave the cold water, bring a change of clothes and you can follow the example of Tibetan pilgrims and walk through the glacier fed waterfall.

At the end of the hike, we will move our base up to a guest house in Upper Yubeng.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3: Today is devoted to visiting base camp and glacier lake. This day’s hike is 13km round trip beginning through a narrow valley. We then pass through the wide pasture where base camp is located and up the final stretch to reach the glacier lake at 3800m. Tonight we again enjoy the respite of a tea-house style trekker’s lodge in Upper Yubeng Village.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4: This is a long, but easier trekking day. We will leave Yubeng village and climb over a pass at 3700m and then descend to Xidang at 2400m. From there, we will take the 5 hour drive back to Shangri-la and arrive at your guesthouse for a late dinner. If we’re tired from the multiple days of trekking, then we can choose to hike the all down hill route along the beautiful river back to Ninong and depart to Shangri-la from there.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
